The vortex god power literally sucks all your military units up and drops them in one place. For instance, all their buildings come replete with a time shift power, which allows them to be moved to different parts of the map. The various Titan god powers and the Atlantean features add some very interesting strategic twists to the game. They come complete with their own set of major Titan gods Kronos, Oranos and Gaia, plus nine minor gods.
Therefore, only if you take those risks and succeed, you will be rewarded with the possibility of making a bigger army and your ally(es)/opponent(s) will be punished with less population space and hence a reduced capacity for making a big army.The Atlanteans themselves are like a more interesting version of the Greeks, who personally I've always found to be quite dull compared to the showy and frantic Egyptians and the Norse. In general, I disliked the fact of units costing more than one population space, but in AoM population has a very important strategic component: the idea that if you want to expand and increase your population, you need to build town centers only on the permitted settlements of the map and you can only build like 10 houses (or perhaps five bigger houses if you are Atlantean). They were better villagers that did not have to walk to stock the resources they collected but they required more population space.
If they were transformed into heroes, then they took one extra space. For example, normal Atlantean citizens, if I remember well, occupied like two or three population space. Regarding the ability to transform your human units into heroes, the main disadvantages that I perceived were their price and their population space. Regenerating titans is obviously very OP.
I didn't know that they became able to regenerate for free any mythic unit including the titans. For example that Atlanteans are no longer the only ones able to build extra town centers at the Classic Age. I remember years ago how was the single player game and then noticed some changes made by developers over the last 17 years. I have no multiplayer experience with this game and I have just watched a few matches between human players on Youtube.
